Community Concerns
As a courtesy to all our residents and for your own safety, please do not exceed posted speed limits. Extra caution should be used on side streets where children are likely to be playing.
City code requires grass to be cut regularly. If grass or weeds reach 10 inches, the city will notify the owner of the property, and the owner has 7 days to cut the grass. If it is not cut, the city will hire a contractor to cut the grass. This will cost the homeowner $150, plus the contractor charges.
Recently, the issue has been raised about vehicles parked on our sidewalks. Please be aware that this is illegal -- even in your own driveway.
Trashcans should be placed curbside no sooner than the evening before pickup day.
In addition, they should be removed by the next day following collection, and placed beside or behind the dwelling. This is covered under Portsmouth City Code Sec. 16-36
Dog owners! Do not allow your pet to use other people's yards as a toilet unless you plan to clean up any messes produced. This goes beyond consideration for your fellow residents, it is the law! Of course, this holds true for all residents walking their dogs anywhere in the city.
